A Step Beyond has changed me.

Teaching dance brings me joy.

ASB is here for the whole family.

A Step Beyond is a Creative Youth Development organization serving youth and their families living at or below the poverty line with free after-school dance classes, academic support, and social services.  In order to create deep, meaningful, and lasting relationships that will ensure the artistic, academic, and social-emotional development of our youth, we make a ten-year commitment to support students and their families from 3rd grade to high school graduation and beyond.

ASB Strategic Plan

We recently completed and approved a new three-year strategic plan that will guide ASB through 2028. The plan focuses on strengthening the excellence and long-term sustainability of our program in Escondido while continuing to deepen the impact of the model we have built over the past decade. Over the next three years, we plan to gradually grow enrollment to more than 280 students while maintaining the outcomes that define our program—ensuring students stay engaged through dance, academics, and family services and ultimately graduate high school prepared for college or career pathways. At the same time, we are placing a new emphasis on supporting our alumni (now at 36 strong) during the first two years after high school, a critical transition period when students often face the greatest barriers to persistence in college or workforce training. By strengthening mentoring, advising, and targeted intervention for graduates, we hope to ensure that the long-term investment we make in each student continues to translate into lasting success in adulthood.
